In much the same fashion as in 2018, Aaron Boone used his postseason postmortem to reveal that a key member of the Yankees' roster was in need of Tommy John surgery.

Unlike last season's Didi Gregorius revelation, however, it wasn't entirely a surprise.

After Aaron Hicks injured his throwing elbow in August, it was widely assumed the outfielder with an impressive cannon would need the surgical procedure. Instead he delayed, rehabbed on his own following a second opinion, and came back to slam a game-changing home run in Game 5 of the ALCS.

Unfortunately, this was all a stall tactic; Brian Cashman revealed Hicks will have Tommy John surgery on Oct. 30.

Ideally, he'll be back by the end of the summer of 2020, but Hicks' impressive arm needs to cover more ground than Gregorius' on a regular basis. We'll continue to hold our breath, and expect the team to sign Brett Gardner and open up Mike Tauchman's minutes in the meantime.

Also notable, however, is that the surgeries didn't stop there: Masahiro Tanaka got a bone spur addressed (and should be ready for spring), and Luke Voit got his troublesome core muscle repaired.

Tanaka seems like nothing more than a cleanup following a heavy workload, and Yankee fans everywhere should be incredibly relieved Voit got his issues taken care of.

No matter how many times he assured the Bronx faithful that he was perfectly alright, his 1-for-32 stretch proved we weren't seeing the same healthy and aggressive Voit at year's end. With his body fine-tuned in '20, he should be a monster once more for a team that could use his patience (without Hicks in the mix).
