Yankees Reveal New Lineup for ALCS Game 1 in Houston
By Sean Facey
The New York Yankees are set to take on the Houston Astros Saturday night in a rematch of the 2017 ALCS rematch.
But instead of rolling with the same lineup that they did for their ALDS sweep of the Twins, the Yankees and manager Aaron Boone mixed things up, scrambling the batting order for the tall task of getting to Astros Game 1 starter Zack Greinke.
DJ LeMahieu and Aaron Judge will man their usual spots at first and second atop the order while young star Gleyber Torres slides into the three-spot. Torres was an absolute force of nature in the ALDS against the Twins, putting up a 1.378 OPS with three doubles, a home run and four runs batted in.
Edwin Encarnacion will bat cleanup with Giancarlo Stanton to follow. After him will be Brett Gardner, who remains in the lineup despite the addition of Aaron Hicks to the roster.
Rounding out the bottom three spots will be Gary Sanchez, Gio Urshela and Didi Gregorius, who once again gets the start at shortstop with the chance to build on his already impressive postseason resume. Masahiro Tanaka, of course, will be on the hill opposite of Greinke.
It's an incredibly deep lineup that would strike fear into the hearts of most pitchers in the league. But the Astros and their pitching staff are no strangers to adversity and seem to be in prime position to throw everything they have at the Yankees.
