Yankees Sending Lefty Daniel Camarena Back to Triple-A
By Sean Facey
The Yankees made a minor roster move in wake of their 5-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. New York has sent left-handed pitcher Daniel Camarena back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on the same day that he was called up.
The 26-year-old Camarena was signed by the Yankees in May after an unsuccessful stay with the Minnesota Twins. The Yanks drafted him out of high school in the 20th round back in 2011.
He's struggled mightily in 2019. He posted a 6.23 ERA in Triple-A Rochester while with the Twins, and he's fared only marginally better back with the Yankees, pitching to the tune of a 6.00 ERA in Scranton.
Camarena has yet to prove that he can pitch consistently in Triple-A. He owns a career 5.30 ERA and 1.489 WHIP at the top level of the minors.
Camarena has shown flashes of class before, but just hasn't been able to piece it altogether for a consistent stretch of time.
It seemed as though he'd make an appearance, but now he'll just have to wait a little bit longer to make his MLB debut.
