Yankees Sign Former Cardinals All-Star Closer Trevor Rosenthal
By Thomas Carannante
The New York Yankees are apparently hoping to capitalize on signing a former top relief arm.
On Monday night, it was reported via Andersen Pickard that the Bombers were set to sign former St. Louis Cardinals closer Trevor Rosenthal. That news has been confirmed as of Tuesday morning.
Rosenthal, 29, missed all of 2018 due to Tommy John surgery after going down late in the 2017 campaign with a UCL injury. He returned to the MLB in 2019, but has not had a good go of it.
The right-hander has already spent time with the Washington Nationals and Detroit Tigers this season, pitching to a 13.50 ERA and 2.41 WHIP in 22 games thus far. Perhaps the Yankees see this signing as an opportunity to get Rosenthal back on track considering he's still working out the kinks following surgery. He's already gotten a taste of big-league action this year and maybe he's learned from his horrid outings.
He'll start in the minors with the Yanks, and could potentially provide some bullpen depth down the stretch if he can get himself right.
