Yankees Signing Red Sox Fan Favorite Brock Holt Would Be Ideal End to the Perfect Offseason
By Michael Luciano
The hard-working, scrappy town of Boston instantly meshed with the personality and play style of utility man Brock Holt. Holt, who can play virtually every position apart from catcher and pitcher, hit .270 over the last seven years in Boston, but the Red Sox might let him leave in the name of achieving financial flexibility.
If Holt gets booted out of Boston, the New York Yankees, who are in the middle of a dream offseason in which Gerrit Cole joined the club on a record-breaking contract, would be an interesting spot for him to land.
Holt isn't going to be any sort of offensive juggernaut, but he can serve as a valuable deputy for DJ LeMahieu at second, Gleyber Torres at short, or even Gio Urshela at third. Should one of the outfielders go down to injury, Holt can step in and rake at a consistent level for a little while.
Holt is by no means a superstar addition that will take the Yankees to the next level, but he's as reliable as the day is long, fills holes at almost every position and won't break the bank.
Considering Boston's marquee offseason acquisition to this point is Jose Peraza, the Yanks adding Holt to their ranks would only stand to further the growing gap between the two clubs.
The stars are aligning for Cashman to twist the knife further into their hated rivals, and the signing of Holt would act as the dagger.
