Yankees Star Catcher Gary Sanchez Set to Be Activated From IL and Rejoin Yankees in Toronto
By Charles Nason
For the first time since mid-July, Yankees star catcher Gary Sanchez will be back in the lineup this weekend. The 26 year-old has battled through a groin injury at multiple points this season, but his most recent stint on the IL looks to finally have come to an end.
At one point, Sanchez was leading the entire league in home runs. Due to the time he's spent on the IL (and the few weeks before the stint when it appeared he was also battling a thumb issue), what looked like a promising season was quickly derailed. Now in the midst of a four-game road series with the Blue Jays, the Yankees could get Sanchez back in the lineup in time for the third and fourth contests.
Even without Sanchez in the lineup, the Yankees haven't let up whatsoever. The Bronx Bombers currently hold a nine-game win streak, without a loss in the month of August.
While the All-Star catcher has battled his groin injury, New York has had Austin Romine and Kyle Higashioka split time behind the plate. With Sanchez now set to return, the Yankees not only reactivate their best catcher, but another strong offensive star to make up for Aaron Hicks and Luke Voit spending time on the IL.
Hopefully for the Yankees, this is the last time Sanchez will see time on the IL this season. Although they still have the the second-best record in baseball and a solid lead in the AL East, the Yankees have lost more than enough stars to injury this season.
If Sanchez can stay healthy and get back on track, he can hopefully recapture the absurd offensive pace he was on in late June. For now, Yankees fans can rejoice that their star catcher will finally be back this weekend.
