Yankees to Place Cameron Maybin on IL With Calf Strain
By Mark Powell
Just as the Yankees are getting healthy again, one of their main contributors heads to the injured list. It's like clockwork.
With the likes of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton out the past few months, veteran journeyman Cameron Maybin's resurgence has been all the more important, with the Yankees even opting to keep him on the big league roster (rather than Clint Frazier) when the big boppers returned.
In Friday's game, Maybin injured his calf on Gary Sanchez's home run, and apparently heard a pop. Per Aaron Boone, he'll be out for the foreseeable future.
The aforementioned Frazier is currently on the minor league IL, so he isn't an option to be called up to take Maybin's place. New York's organizational depth has been mightily tested this season, and they've proven up to the task thus far.
Maybin recently ended a streak in which he hit a home run in four straight games. While that was an unprecedented amount of power for the speedy outfielder, it does speak to the kind of dream season Maybin was having in the Bronx.
