Yankees Top Prospect Has Excellent Response to MLB's Plan to Pay Minor Leaguers During Shutdown
By Adam Weinrib
In case you're only just arriving at this topic of discussion now due to a pandemic shutdown, I'm happy to inform you that no, minor-league baseball players absolutely never make the proper amount of money.
Though it's of little consolation, considering the coronavirus has taken away their livelihood and thrown their baseball future into the blender, Major League Baseball did announce the bare minimum earlier on Tuesday. Their relief efforts have extended to minor leaguers, as each player will be receiving a $400/week payment for however long we're without baseball.
A kind gesture, for sure. We're absolutely not lambasting baseball's efforts here -- for a while, it seemed like they would try to skate by without doing much of anything.
However, that doesn't mean EVERY problem is solved, just like that. Yankees slugger Josh Stowers wants to make sure you know he doesn't feel like he's bathing in bills thanks to this small stimulus.
Hey, under $1600/month rent? Stowers is going to be in for a serious wake up call if he makes the show in NYC.
For now, minor-league players will have to sit and wait this out like the rest of us, while receiving an additional supplement from their employer, on top of that $1200 chunk of Trump Bucks headed our way in May.
