Yankees Trade Slugging Infielder Ryan McBroom to Royals for International Bonus Money
By Adam Weinrib

'Tis the season for trading fringe 40-man roster candidates away as you start worrying about protecting your top prospects this offseason!
That doesn't exactly flow off the tongue, but it's the exact reason the Yankees offloaded slugging 'tweener Ryan McBroom, who'd drilled 26 homers and hit .315 as a 27-year-old at Triple-A this season. He'll head to Kansas City, a spot he'll have a much more likely shot at playing time, especially this very September.
After all, there's no Luke Voit, Mike Ford, or even Greg Bird there.
Trade: The Yankees have traded INF Ryan McBroom to Kansas City in exchange for international signing bonus pool money and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Remember, Yankee fans: even though you were fond of McBroom, you've got high-octane young prospects (like breakout pitcher Miguel Yajure) who need 40-man spots this offseason, lest they be exposed to the rest of the league. Something has to give.
And don't deride these international signing bonus pool dollars this year, either. We all got riled up when Adam Warren went to Seattle for money, and then that money was used to sign The Martian, who's supposedly the next Mike Trout.
