Yankees Vault Ahead of Astros in FiveThirtyEight's World Series Forecast
By Adam Weinrib

It's fair to take this with about a hundred grains of salt, but for the first time in a while, Yankee fans can celebrate knowing that someone thinks they're the favorite now.
Unfortunately, that "someone" also claimed Hillary Clinton had a 90% chance of beating Donald Trump for the presidency in 2016. But I digress.
With a winner-take-all Game 5 ahead of them Thursday evening, the Astros have slipped behind the idle Yankees for the best percentage odds to win the World Series, per FiveThirtyEight.

Does it mean much? No. Surely, if Gerrit Cole carries the 'Stros to victory like most expect, this pendulum will swing their way once again, with home-field advantage secured if they advance.
However, it's an earned little honor for a Yankees team that faced a robust challenge from the 101-win Twins (a team featuring next to no one from Minnesota's last playoff failure in 2017), and dispatched them with relative ease.
If Houston wins...

Good news: Verlander and Cole pushed to games 2 and 3
Bad news: Verlander and Cole pushed to games 6 and 7
Will this chart have flip-flopped by Friday morning? Yankee fans hope the Rays persevere and throw a massive wrench into the projection system. James Comey, now would be a good time to release Justin Verlander's emails.
