Yankees Really Should Sign Yasiel Puig After Aaron Judge Injury Diagnosis
By Sean Facey
The New York Yankees are staring down the barrel of yet another injury-plagued season. They first lost Giancarlo Stanton to a calf strain in late February, and now Aaron Judge has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his rib that could require surgery.
Their outfield depth is running incredibly thin and the 2020 campaign hasn't even started.
Fortunately, All-Star outfielder Yasiel Puig is still on the free agent market, and it's about time that the Yankees go out and get him.
Stanton and Judge will both miss time, and Aaron Hicks is still recovering from Tommy John surgery. The Yankees' three best outfielders are all unavailable. Puig would be the Yankees best friend.
He's a solid hitter with a good track record on offense. Over the last three years, Puig has slugged 75 home runs in 426 games, hitting to the tune of a respectable .811 OPS. He's everything that they need right now.
When it's taken into consideration how close the season is to starting, the Yankees likely wouldn't even have to shell out that much money for him. The two parties are a match made in heaven.
The Yankees could give Puig the starting time he desires while Stanton, Judge, and Hicks recover, and when they return, he could be a more than viable depth piece.
If the Yankees want to overcome this injury bug in the same successful fashion that they did in 2019, then they need to start by bringing in Puig. He is the key to helping them stay afloat through this stretch of injuries.
