VIDEO: YES Network Posts Gerrit Cole Clip That Should Get Yankee Fans Very Hyped
By Jackson Thompson
The New York Yankees spent big this offseason, bringing in free agent pitcher Gerrit Cole on a nine-year, $324 million contract. But...how do we put it...there's much more to it than that. The YES Network put out a hype clip on Sunday that illustrates the details and implications of Cole's signing, showing exactly how much it means to New York.
Cole, who claims to have dreamed of playing for the Yankees since childhood, has been embraced by the fan base since his signing, and is already getting the pseudo movie treatment before throwing a single pitch in Pinstripes.
The YES Network described the the Cole signing in the vein of classic American literature, with the caption "For 11 years, he was their white whale." The line is a reference to the 1851 Herman Melville classic novel "Moby Dick," and has been a popular refrain since Brian Cashman finally laid his hands on Cole.
While there is no sexually explicit content featured in the video, romantic themes accompanied by a suggestive piano tone may have been an intentional creative decision by the network to channel the sense of euphoria by the fan base in response to the signing. The organization has already channeled romantic themes in their pursuit of Cole, when they offered him the same bottle of wine he and his wife shared during an anniversary dinner in Florence.
Yankee fans will take whatever they can get as this absurd offseason slowly crawls to a satisfying conclusion.
