Yordan Alvarez Joins Albert Pujols as Owners of Insane MLB Record
By Aaron Halford
Houston Astros rookie left fielder and designated hitter Yordan Alvarez has displayed his monster power plenty since getting the call in June.
In the process, he's tied future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols' record with 34 RBI in his first 30 career games.
Pujols, who set the record in 2001 while playing for the St. Louis Cardinals, went on to be a three-time league MVP and nine-time All-Star (and counting).
Since Alvarez's debut, he's broken or come close to breaking most hitting records for rookies spending their first month in the majors. Still only 22 years old, Alvarez has a bright future ahead of him with the always competitive Houston Astros.
Nearly three years ago, Alvarez was traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers to Houston in exchange for reliever Josh Fields. I'm sure Astros GM Jeff Luhnow and the rest of the organization look back on that trade quite fondly.
The Houston Astros are currently 7.5 games ahead in the AL West, and hope that Alvarez's impressive production will continue through August into October.
