Youngest QBs to Win Super Bowl
By Michael Luciano
Patrick Mahomes has proven to be one of the best young quarterbacks we've ever seen in the NFL, as he has led the Kansas City Chiefs to the Super Bowl in just his second year as a starter at only 24 years old. Should Mahomes take down Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV in Miami, he could join an exclusive list of quarterbacks who won the game's ultimate prize in the early stages of their careers.
5. Troy Aikman, 26 Years Old
Aikman was the same age in years as Bob Griese, Jim McMahon, and Terry Bradshaw when they won the Super Bowl, but Aikman was just a few important months younger. Aikman won his first with the Dallas Cowboys after they completely demolished the Buffalo Bills 52-17 in 1993, and he proceeded to win two more with Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer over the next three years. Aikman always turned things up a notch in the Super Bowl, and his first was no exception.
4. Joe Montana, 25 Years Old
The first of Montana's four Super Bowl wins was a nail-biter over Ken Anderson and the Cincinnati Bengals by a 26-21 scoreline that was capped off by a late touchdown pass to wide receiver John Taylor. Montana was the youngest QB at the time to win a Super Bowl, barely passing Joe Namath. Montana would get to the biggest game of them all three more times, and he ended up winning every single one of them. From the day he stepped on the field, it became clear he was a different breed.
3. Russell Wilson, 25 Years Old
Wilson took on a record-setting offense led by one of the greatest ever to do it in Peyton Manning, and his Seattle Seahawks won in dominating fashion by a 43-8 score. Wilson was one yard and one ill-advised throw away from winning his second consecutive Super Bowl against New England the next season, but he can always lean on his domination of Manning and Denver at just 25 years old as the finest hour of his pro career.
2. Tom Brady, 24 Years Old
Brady's first ring came over Kurt Warner and the St. Louis Rams thanks to some mistake-free football, an excellent defensive performance from the Patriots, and New England kicker Adam Vinatieri nailing some clutch kicks. Brady is still vying for championships at 42, but his first title way back at the turn of the 2000s is still one of the brightest moments of his illustrious career.
1. Ben Roethlisberger, 23 Years Old
Yes, his passer rating of 22.6 was lower than the 39.6 he would have picked up if he'd only thrown an incompletion on every play. Yes, he only completed nine passes the entire night. That doesn't change the fact that Roethlisberger is still the youngest quarterback ever to win the Super Bowl, as he won his first ring while younger than some quarterbacks are when they're drafted. If Lamar Jackson couldn't break his mark after the year he had, this record is probably going to stick for a long time.
