Yu Darvish Has Miraculously Found His Control and Saved His Season
By Charles Nason
At one point this year, it looked like Cubs' right-handed starter Yu Darvish had lost control of most of his pitches, carrying on a proud tradition of being unable to find his form in Chi-Town. Through the beginning of June, Darvish was averaging nearly six walks per game with just two wins to his name.
However, since that point, he's completely flipped the script.
Over the past almost two months, Darvish has seemingly gotten back on track, especially with his control, helping him salvage what looked like a failed season.
Since the June 10 mark, Darvish has been markedly better on the mound. Those stat improvements aren't just impressive considering the way he was pitching, but would fly as incredible for any pitcher across the league. To only walk two batters in six starts is an incredible feat, and clearly proves that Darvish's season is headed in the right direction.
With the Cubs barely hanging onto the lead in the NL Central, they need Darvish to pitch like the guy they chased down two years ago.
Darvish's most recent effort on the mound solidified that he has gotten his style back. In the third game of a series with the Brewers, Darvish went five innings, allowing five hits, zero walks and racking up eight strikeouts.
We've definitley seen Darvish melt down late in the season, and especially in the postseason, before. However, with the way he's turned his season around, don't expect to see that this year. Instead, we could very well see the old Yu Darvish that made him a household name in the league.
