VIDEO: Reporter Pool Had Priceless Reaction When Yu Darvish Revealed He Threw 6 Different Pitches in Spring Debut
By Jack Murphy
Spring Training is a time for pitchers to experiment with new pitches and deliveries to see if they are effective enough to implement into their regular season plans. Chicago Cubs pitcher Yu Darvish is taking things to the next level, and revealed that he threw six pitches in his Spring debut. Needless to say, reporters had a priceless response.
The funniest part of the entire clip was that Darvish never said how many pitches he threw. The Cubs ace just listed the pitches off. The reporter then bursted out saying, "Holy crap, that's six pitches."
Dravish is coming off a season where he put up a 3.98 ERA and 229 strikeouts in 178.1 innings, and finished seventh in the league in K/9.
Darvish is not known as one of the elite pitchers in the league at this point in his career, but he can rack up the strikeouts. If Yu can return to his status from 2012-16, in which he made four All-Star teams and finished second in Cy Young voting twice, NL hitters are in trouble.
Coming into the 2020 season, Darvish is trying out new things in order to improve on his 2019 campaign. Improving upon his pitch arsenal certainly won't hurt matters.
