Yu Darvish Tweets Excellent Response to 2019 Cy Young Debate

Who should have taken home the NL Cy Young award last year? Was it New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom (yes, it was him), or Los Angeles Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu, who led the league in ERA?

Chicago Cubs starter Yu Darvish certainly remembers it differently from the rest of us. To hear him tell it, the famous award actually went to his teammate, Victor Caratini.

Who plays catcher.

Caratini has established himself as the Cubs' go-to emergency pitcher when they're down by a million runs and don't want to go through the hassle of getting a proper reliever warmed up. In two games in 2019, he gave up two runs while striking out one.

Caratini, who threw 65 MPH whiffle ball-esque pitches most of the time on the mound, should at least get Gold Glover consideration after his insanely athletic play that took away a hit from Wilson Ramos.

Darvish certainly turned his season around in the middle of the year, and the presence of Caratini behind the plate was certainly a factor in Darvish's resurgence. What's more, if you really need him to, he'll hop on the mound, sling some fast-pitch softball throws, and get you a clean inning or two. How versatile.
