Zdeno Chara Starts Game 5 for the Bruins Despite Broken Jaw
By Scott Rogust
Nothing is going to stop Zdeno Chara from potentially hoisting his second Stanley Cup.
Despite reports suggesting otherwise, the defenseman is in the starting lineup for the Bruins for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the St. Louis Blues.
Chara suffered a broken jaw in Game 4 on Monday night after taking a puck to the face. After leaving the ice bloodied, Chara returned for the third period, wearing a bubble mask. While he didn't retrun to play, the Bruins giant wanted to be on the bench with his teammates all the same.
Earlier on in the day, Chara "spoke" briefly with the media after taking the ice for practice. And by speak, we mean he had to physically write down his answers on a piece of paper, as he was unable to deliver what we would call words.
Across 20 postseason games, Chara has tallied 1 goal and 4 assists, accumulating a plus/minus of 12.
Chara isn't going to let a broken jaw stop him from helping his team potentially earn a 3-2 series lead, showing the heart of a captain. Hockey players.. they're just a different breed.
