Zion Williamson Autographed Rookie Card Sells for Utterly Insane Sum
By Max Smith
Zion Williamson is undoubtedly one of the most exciting young players in the NBA. After an electrifying 19 games this season with the Pelicans, averaging 23.6 points on 58% shooting, he showed why he deserves the hype.
However, is that hype worth almost $100,000? One eBay buyer believes so. On Sunday, a Zion Williamson autographed rookie card sold for $99,800 (plus shipping, of course).
If Williamson had been able to play a full rookie year, he'd be the favorite to win Rookie of the Year, but a knee injury took that away from him in the preseason. However, it's almost been more impressive what he's been able to do coming off an injury.
Zion scored 20 points in 13 straight games for the Pelicans when he returned, setting the record for most consecutive 20 point games by a teenager with the streak.
What's even more impressive is the fact that he was averaging only 29.7 minutes played in his 19 games. To average over 23 points in your rookie year, coming off an injury, and playing under 30 minutes is an incredible accomplishment.
We will be able to see more of Zion in the NBA's playoff format, as they will be fighting for an eighth seed in the play-in tournament. Apparently, that return to prominence will only make his insane card values rise further.
If you've got $100,000 to drop on a basketball card, you should probably consider donating to the relief efforts. Just a thought.
